MetaQuotes Language 4 (or MQL4 for short) is based on the computer programming language called "C", which was created in 1972 and is at the heart of the UNIX, Linux and Mac OS X computer operating systems, as well as many other things. You can find an old (but still good!) online tutorial on C programming on the University of Strathclyde website.
MetaQuotes themselves provide an introduction to their forex flavour of C on MQL4.com. On top of that there is also an article entitled the MQL4 Language for Newbies which claims that it "is intended for traders who know nothing about programming".
Even so, if you've never done any programming before all that is likely to seem like a horrible mixture of Double Dutch and Greek with a bit of Russian thrown in for good measure, so please feel free to ask a few questions here!
