    MQL4 Range Breakout Systems

Whilst it's still very early days, it's intriguing (to me at least) that all the interest thus far on this forum has been on moving average crossover systems.

I thought I'd take this opportunity to remind our readers that information about the highly successful (and now publicly revealed) Turtle Trading system is available on the blog, together with a MetaTrader 4 expert advisor that implements a basic range breakout system.

MQL4 Avoytenko's Channel Breakout System from ATC 2010

Looking at Ray's performance in Automated Trading Competitions, I spent a lot of time reading about different systems on Metatrader's own site, where they report on their Automated Trading Championship.

So far, I took a closer look at one entrant's system: Andrey Voitenko 'avoytenko'.
As far as I understand it, it is a Channel Breakout System, trading on EURUSD_M5.

I have attached preliminary testing results on EURUSD over 10 years, showing appr 5.56% drawdown, a 'not-so-high'-profitfactor, but nearly 3500 trades. Keep in mind, a fixed lotsize of 0.1 was used, and many times 3 concurrent trades were open.

His mq4 files can be downloaded here, the same system is also supplied for Metatrader 5.
There are 2 versions available: version 2, and version 3.

From what is available through interviews, I have gathered, that v3 is just the most recent (and only in russian), where the only change to v2 is a more profitable trailing step/trailing stop.

What I have done, is, I have looked through the mq4 code of v2, then have run v3.
Two more remarks: attached spreadsheet files is .ods (for OpenOffice), and I wanted to attach a zipped html-file of optimizer report (original 26MB !!!, zipped appr 902kB, was too large, can anyone tell me how to attach this?

    Hi Pippa,

Thanks for this interesting "preliminary" information.

I've now increased the forum's maximum ZIP file size to 1 Mb. Hopefully that will solve this problem.

    Hi Pippa,

I downloaded the 'avoytenko' files and did some testing using the MT4 version 2. But the first results were very disappointing. It produced some good results in the first few months and after that it had a huge drawdown and lost all the money. This was using the default settings.

By the way I don't have ODS/ open office program so I couldn't open your attached file. I used to have it years ago, but it was such a hassle that I deleted it. I was trying to open your file in excel but didn't succeed. Can you save it in Excel and post it again, I will be very grateful.

    Cheers,
