Thread: Comparison/decision table for trading languages

Question Comparison/decision table for trading languages

    Hello together,

I'm a bit involved in MQL programming but looking for the right future stable language for my next project. It seems you have a lot of comparing knowledge concerning automated trading.

Do you have ever done a comparison e.g. between Oanda API, MQL5, FXCM Strategy Trader, JForex and others.
I'm looking for things like minimum deposit for using, costs (Oanda 600$!), technical differences (API vs. direct access), Bridges, functional range, community coverage... and many others.

What's about to build a community based comparison table/wiki for questions like this?

    Great work,
    Holger

That sounds like a really great idea! I'm a bit busy just at the moment with the recent flurry of automated trading contest announcements, but as soon as I have a spare moment I'll set something up. I've personally not used the Oanda API as yet, though I have tried the others on your list, along with a fair few more.

Would you by any chance know someone able to assist with the Oanda section?

    Cheers!

Not by now, but if it will be an open (for everbody editable) table/wiki, mayby somebody from the Oanda community will help to fill it.

    OK Holger,

Do you have any views on what would be the best software for that particular job? I've just been reading about semantic v syntactic Wikis. Sounds like a bit of minefield!

    Hi Jim,

No, there are some free hosted wikis but probably it's enough to start with something like this https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?...RbzIyc1E&hl=de
Anybody can edit this and we can start and see how it works. I inserted only some words, we have to see which formating works best.

    Happy Sunday,
    Holger

OK thanks. I get the idea. However, personally I always prefer to use my own servers for important data and content. In my darkest hours I even get a little paranoid at the thought of Google taking over the world with information gleaned from all the information that is hosted on their servers these days!

    Cheers,

I totaly agree with you. But sometimes I ask myself, what can I lose and what can I win using the (actually incredible) services of google. And I make sure, they never can catch any personal data from me.
So it would just be a fast starting point without installing software on yourself.

PS: Finally I found the language already! I have to use LISP :-)

Finally I found the language already! I have to use German!

Is there a way of changing the S/S into English, for the benefit of us ignorant, lazy Anglo Saxons?

I've quickly added some stuff from memory. I also took the liberty of removing FXCM's proprietary NDD terminology! Are we heading in the right direction, do you think?

You will note that LISP is conspicuous only by its absence!

Yeh, great - right direction. What do you mean with S/S??

I will transpose it - because of more lines, less columns and better filter

    S/S = SpeadSheet.

The new layout is better, thanks. Please note I have removed one of your links. We don't have advertising on here. I'm not happy about a link to a "broker comparison" site that is plastered in ads.

    Make sense?
