    Ray the Random Robot Reprieved!

We discovered this morning, after consuming lots of coffee and midnight oil last night, that the deadline for entries to the MetaTrader 5 Automated Trading Championship 2010 has been extended to September 25th.

This does in fact come as something of a relief, because it gives us a bit more time to fine tune the delicate balance of Ray's almost chaotic, but nonetheless state of the art, multiple artificial stupidity!

After numerous trials and tribulations along the way, late last night we finally managed to upload a working version of Ray the Random Robot with his trusty Martingale Money Management Module plus his shiny new Multiple Micro Memory Modules (MMMM²) to the MetaTrader 5 Automated Trading Championship 2010 site. We beat the deadline by over 5 minutes! At that point only 284 MQL5 expert advisors out of a total of 1726 had been approved, and Ray wasn't one of them!

This morning I checked back, and discovered that MetaQuotes had tested Ray overnight, and that he is one of 338 "robots" that have now been approved to enter the competition:

If you'd like to experiment with an "expert" that MetaQuotes reckon can turn $10,000 into $44,475.58 in 7 months you can download the source code to Ray's artificially stupid electronic brain here.

Due to limitations in the current build 338 of MetaTrader 5 we've had to change the way Ray enters the market slightly. Instead of entering in the direction of the last tick he waits for the end of a one minute bar, then enters in the direction of that bar.

We'll make a similar change to the Dukascopy JForex model of Ray in time for their October contest, so that the two will be more directly comparable.

This morning I checked back once more, only to discover that some of the entrants in the MetaTrader 5 Automated Trading Championship 2010 have been thrown out. The number of approved participants has gone down from a peak of 340 to only 318!

Fortunately, as you can see, it's still all systems go for Ray the Random Robot. It seems as though some other "robots" have been "economical with the truth" about their schizophrenic tendencies!

We wanna cheer on RAY in the ATC 2011 !

    Hello Jim,
registration to the Automated Trading Championship 2011 is open, and it would be fun to see Ray overtake lots of competitors.

Can you lure him into this?
It takes years to become an overnight success

Sadly it seems that it is already a bit too late for any luring. I only just followed your link, and the ATC 2011 site now tells me:

Registration of Participants has closed, and the stage of Expert Advisor acceptance is over. Also the system of automatic testing of Expert Advisors has been stopped. No other applications to participate in the ATC 2011 will be accepted.
so it looks as though Ray won't be able to make a last minute entry like he did last year. Mind you, after some of the goings on behind the scenes last time around Ray was a bit disillusioned with the idea anyway. These days he much prefers running on servers he has personally approved, rather than those provided by 3rd parties.

As an interesting aside one of the sponsors of the ATC 2011, Vantage FX, has recently been taken to court by the CFTC accused of being "the counterparty to retail forex transactions without being registered as an RFED with the CFTC"!

    Cheers,

    Jim
