    Hi.

Recently found this forum (someone at SLM sent me this way) and decided to join as it looks like a good place to be.

I have been trading for about 7 years on and off now, mainly manually. I decided to try to learn how to program in MQL4 to try and program some "robots" to trade on shorter time frames. I can only trade manually on the daily time frame but have been interested for a while now in lower time frames and in automatic trading. I have written a couple of simple robots to trade mainly MA cross overs, they seem to work fairly well and I think for my first attempts they are not to bad, they are running on demo tests at the moment to see if any bugs come up.

Well that's about it. I hope I can be a useful member of this forum, and look forward to some automated trading ideas.

    Jon.

    Hi Jon,

Welcome to the community! Do you solely spreadbet, or have you got other "conventional" trading accounts as well?

In any event, I wish you joy with your automated trading experiments. I have to say MA crossovers wouldn't be my first choice for a shorter timeframe. However if something along those lines does look promising then I'd love to hear about it!

    Cheers,

    Jim

    Hi Jim.

I am now on my 6th spreadbet account, usually swap because there is something that I am not happy with, have to say though at the moment I am happy with SLM. I have also had general accounts with Alpari, FXCM and FXDD to, and out of those Alpari seemed to be the best.

I have to agree that a MA cross is probably not good on short time frames but I thought it would give me the practice in making my first auto program. The MA cross system does look ok on certain pairs in H1 and greater time frame and these are still shorter than what I can manually trade.

    Jon.
